MORA takes every opportunity to promote organ and tissue donor awareness throughout the state. The "Gift of Life Quilt" project, a handmade tribute in memory of organ donors and in honor of transplant recipients, is one such program.

Mississippi Trees of Life

"Trees of Life " is a statewide initiative sponsored by the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency. The goal of the program is to promote donor awareness and the lifesaving benefits of organ and tissue transplantation through tree plantings and commemorative ceremonies.

When planting a "Tree of Life", a ceremony is held to celebrate the renewal of health and life given to transplant recipients while honoring donor families who gave at their time of great loss. This centers around the beauty of the tree planting. On a local level, the event generates a great deal of interest and publicity.

National Donor Sabbath - November 2010

The National Donor Sabbath is an ecumenical celebration of life in which clergy and congregations nationwide emphasize organ and tissue donation, and discuss their faith's doctrine on donation. The National Donor Sabbath is held each year during the second weekend in November. Religious leaders and congregations are encouraged to participate in a variety of ways.

The Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency provides donation information and materials for distribution free of charge. MORA will secure speakers, donor family members and/or transplant recipients, for congregations interested in a personal message on donation and transplantation.

National Donate Life Month - April 2010

The month of April is observed as National Donate Life Month in an effort to help raise public awareness of the critical need for organ, tissue, marrow and blood donation. While thousands of people recognize the importance of giving the gift of life to others, the need is still great.

Throughout April, the Mississippi Organ Recovery Agency will be participating in numerous community events to bring attention to the need for organ and tissue donation, to honor donor families and to celebrate the miracle of transplantation. An emphasis is placed on gaining media exposure and public interest through donor awareness events and programs.
