Religious Views On Organ Donation

Various religions have different views on organ, eye, and tissue donation. Follow this link to the Donate Life America to read and learn more about common religions’ views on organ donation.

For congregations interested in a personal perspective, MORA can arrange for speakers, donor family members, and transplant recipients to share their powerful stories about donation and transplantation. Together, we can educate and inspire communities to support this life-saving mission. Let us help you bring this important message to your congregation! If you are interested in inviting us to your place of worship, please contact us at 601-933-1000 or fill out the form below.

Multiethnic Communities

In multiethnic communities, the need for organ donors is especially critical. Black/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinx, Asian-Pacific Islanders, and American Indians are more likely to require a lifesaving transplant. In Mississippi alone, nearly 70% of those on the transplant waiting list—and more than 90% of individuals in need of a kidney transplant—are Black/African American.

Certain health conditions that can lead to organ failure, such as diabetes and high blood pressure, are more prevalent in diverse communities. While organ transplants don’t require a match based on race or ethnicity, transplants within the same ethnic group often lead to better outcomes due to a higher likelihood of compatible blood types and tissue markers. With nearly 70% of the National Transplant Waiting List consisting of people of color, increasing donor registrations within these communities is vital.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to donors, donor families, registered donors, and supporters who help advance our mission of saving and healing lives. Your continued efforts to dispel myths, share facts, and spread awareness in communities of color are crucial. Together, we can ensure that more people receive the gift of life. Life Saving Shop Talk

MORA partners with Louisiana Organ Procurement Agency (LOPA) to team up with area barber shops and beauty salons to address the disparate health needs in our community. The program “Life Saving Shop Talk” is a way to provide education and resources to your clients. To learn more, visit the LOPA website at lopa.org/shoptalk.

MORA Events

Our Community Outreach Staff travels the state of Mississippi to offer informative, no-pressure presentations designed for high school and college students, civic groups, Greek chapters, churches, and workplace events. Knowledgeable speakers share about the need, present myths vs facts, answer questions, and offer personal stories to help the audience better understand the impact of organ, eye, and tissue donation. The goal is to inform—not to persuade—so audiences can feel empowered to make their own decisions.
