Step Up, Have the Conversation

In Mississippi, African Americans make up 70% of those on the waiting list for a life-saving organ transplant. However, only 20% of registered organ donors in Mississippi are African American. That’s quite a gap. It’s time to talk about the need for donation in our community and how we can step up and do our part to save lives in Mississippi.

What can I do to promote the gift of life through organ donation?

1. Register as an organ donor.

By registering as a donor you consent to donate your organs and tissues at the time of your death. Organs and tissues will be recovered for the purpose of transplantation, however, in the event a donated organ or tissue cannot be used for transplant, an effort will be made to use the donation for research. Please follow the link to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor.

When you enroll in the National Donor Registry, you are registering as an organ, tissue, and eye donor.
